Dr. Mae's College and Educational Planning Process
I have worked with amazing young people and adults since formally beginning my private practice in 1983. Many of my clients are in or entering into a transitional stage of life and look to me for my expertise and experience to guide them. My task is to listen to my clients’ passions while opening them up to new worlds and experiences they might not have previously considered. I work hard to ease the stress of transition and set my clients up for success. My formula for success is tailored to each client.
Through deep listening to the client, I become a guide who, for a finite time, helps the individual navigate along life's highways, whether that means choosing a college, a vocation, a gap year, or perfecting applications. We work together in person, on Google Hangout or Skype, to establish and meet goals and deadlines, and let the individual’s strengths shine on the page and in interviews.
As a professor, I am a teacher’s teacher, helping to train the next generation of potential teachers. Drawing on my background and advanced degrees in special education, I have taught children to read and now teach the necessary underlying skills to teach others to become fluent readers. I deeply value education, and it is an honor to give each student tools that they can take into their own classrooms.
Each story is as different as the individual, and there is no one path to finding the next step in academics or in life. My role as a guide is to make it a stressless process for each individual to find their way.
College Planning begins by meeting with the family to discuss grades, interests, goals, and how to finance a college education. If you are unable to meet in-person, Dr. Mae provides the same unique services worldwide via video conferencing.
We then target colleges, schedule tests, and develop a personal portfolio to help distinguish the applicant in the competitive admission process
Dr. Mae works with the student to help them write compelling personal statements and supplementary essays, initiate contact with colleges and prepare for interviews. Dr. Mae also assists the students and parents select summer programs and internships, research scholarships, and helps to organize a financial plan. When additional support is required, a well-researched team of associates is available
Dr. Mae is right by your side every step of the way and beyond.
The results speak for themselves: over 90% of students are accepted by the college of their choice.
Students with special needs planning for college have a long history of success with Dr. Mae.
Graduate School, Post-Graduate School, Gap Year and all individualized consultations are addressed with the same conscientiousness, professionalism, and confidentiality as the College Planning Process.
